A drench resistance test tells you how effective each drench active is against each type of worm present on your property. This gives you the information you need to drench effectively, strategically, and cost efficiently.

The drench test results will also provide your advisor with the data they need to make a strategic worm control program, this will prevent resistance forming to the drenches that are working and can improve the efficacy of ineffective drenches.

How to select a mob for a DRT:

Choose a mob that is free from any health issues (e.g Footrot, Flyblown sheep)

  • Make sure the sheep are a good representation of your property so avoid choosing a mob that you recently purchased.
  • You CAN choose a mob that has been drenched previously as long as they are outside withholding period and active time of the previous drench
  • Select a mob with an average epg from an individual WEC of 250-1000 epg.
  • 20 head are required for each drench group (we recommend getting a bigger mob then required so unsuitable sheep can be drafted off)
  • There are two farm visits 14 days apart, the first on "day 0" and the second on "day 14".
  • After collection and drenching on day zero, the stock used for the drench resistance test need to go into a paddock with no other livestock in it and ideally have easy access to the yards.
  • After collection is completed on day 14 they can be boxed up in the original mob. We Recommend giving all sheep used in the trial an exit drench of Zolvix Plus, Startect or a triple before leaving the yards

We have 9 drenches available for the DRT however you can choose to test a minimum of 5. The available drenches include; Albendazole, Closantel, Abamectin, Moxidectin, Levamisole, Zolvix, Startect, Tridectin and Trifecta.
